Lady Wisdom, The Cynic & The Suffering Saint

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, declaring it is GOOD. And then God created humans, placing them in his creation to be his image and to rule over creation in a way that would carry on his creative goodness and flourishing. To do that well, we would need God’s wisdom to discern between good and evil. Wisdom can be found in every book of the Bible, however, there is a distinct set of books referred to as the wisdom literature; Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job. Each of these texts are personified by three characters: a lady of wisdom, a cynic, and a suffering servant respectively, and we can think of these books as three different perspectives of wisdom in dialogue with one another.
