The life Jesus speaks of, sings to the human soul. But often times the life Jesus promises is vastly different from the life we might be experiencing. Peace, hope, joy, and love seem more like a fairytale than an ever-present life.
What is it that causes this chasm to exist? Either Jesus is a liar or we are missing something… maybe the chasm is often caused by counterfeit gods… or, idols.
A counterfeit god is anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, anything we seek to give us what only God can. Frequently, something pulls on the desire of our heart, and we are confronted with the same pervasive lies Adam and Eve experienced in the Garden of Eden. The lie that anything other than loving communion with our Creator, could somehow satisfy or enhance our lives. The sinful human mind is like a perpetual idol factory, we can make a counterfeit god out of anything, which can cause us to constantly distort the nature of God in our minds.
This series is about identifying the counterfeit gods in our lives … and replacing them with a supreme desire to know God and love Him.
