Day 8: Monday, January 15, 2024

Written by Pastor David

Take a moment to pause, be still, and prepare your heart and mind to receive God’s word.

READ: Ezra 8:21-23

Ezra and the Jewish exiles he led had the blessing of the Babylonian king, the gift of a seizable treasure, and the opportunity for a powerful military escort as they prepared their way to Jerusalem. So what did Ezra do? He declined the protection of the king and in doing so turned the treasure into a liability–a seemingly unprotected target for thieves.

Instead of putting his trust in the power, riches, and goodwill of Babylon, Ezra gave the responsibility of their safety to God. Through fasting and prayer Ezra led his people in humbling themselves before God. Instead of being lifted up by Babylon, Ezra lowered himself before God. He chose to put his trust in the one who gives the blessings over the blessings themselves and God heard his prayer.

REFLECT:
Why can God be trusted? What are some good things you can be tempted to  put your trust in instead of God? How do you keep trust in God at the forefront when it seems like everything in life is going great?

PRAYER:
God, I choose you and trust you, today.

FAMILY MOMENT:
Share ways you’ve seen God provide for the others you are with. Share ways you’ve seen the others you are with trusting God in their lives. Encourage one another.
