Day 5: Friday, January 12, 2024

Written by Pastor Rory

Take a moment to pause, be still, and prepare your heart and mind to receive God’s word.

READ: Acts 13:38

My friend looked at me with tears in his eyes. He’s actually older than me and has known Jesus for longer than I have. He said, “I’ve just done so much terrible stuff in my life.” That’s all he said. It’s all he had to say. I got it just like you get it. Our sins are like that mosquito that just whines around my ears. And it nags and pulls at me all the time. But here’s the thing. You and I have been freed from all things. I looked it up in the original language. “All” is translated “all”! It’s all forgiven. God has taken your sin and mine; he’s put them all in a big bag and then buried it in the deepest part of the ocean. And then He puts up a “No Fishing” sign.

We need to stop trying to deal with our sin and past and failure through the law or through behavior or through some kind of performance. Because, “…where sin increased, grace abounded all the more…” (Romans 5:20) Only the love and grace and forgiveness of God can remove past and present guilt. And remember; forgiveness is not a feeling, it’s a state of being.”

REFLECT:
Take a minute and imagine what it would be like to experience total freedom and forgiveness from Jesus. Consider taking a few minutes and write down your thoughts.

PRAY:
In a quiet place talk to Jesus about those thoughts and feelings. Ask Him for His grace and forgiveness and then find rest for your soul.

FAMILY MOMENT:
Talk together about the pain of being separated from Jesus because of sin. Then pray together for a greater understanding and experience of His grace.
