Day 14: Sunday, January 21, 2024

Written by Pastor Courtney

Take a moment to pause, be still, and prepare your heart and mind to receive God’s word.

READ: Psalm 51:15-17

Repentance can be hard. Just me?!? There are times when I’m aware of my sin and rather than repent, I live out Adam and Eve’s choice- I want to be my own god, God! Like David, I try to justify myself by righteous acts. I point to ways that I’ve been serving God, or put on a religious show to distract from the secret thing that I’m hiding away. But every time I choose my own way, I’m robbed of true joy and contentment. I can’t sing praises and delight in my God; instead, I’m full of shame.

Here’s what I have to preach to myself: You do not need to be afraid of how God will respond to all the yucky inside of you. He loved you before you were born and He’s never stopped. He sees you as righteous because of your faith in Jesus and what He accomplished on the cross; you don’t have to try to earn your own righteousness! He asks you to confess your sins and promises that you’ll be forgiven. Repentance isn’t something that you need to fear or hurry through when you know that you are accepted in Christ… and you are!

REFLECT:
In what ways do you respond when you become aware of your own sin? Is there sin in your life that you need to repent of right now? What bible verse do you need to preach to yourself to be reminded of who you are in Christ?

PRAY:
Father, I thank you that I don’t need to fear because you love me perfectly. Remind me of the truth of your Word when I believe lies or begin to doubt.

FAMILY MOMENT:
Have a family conversation about practicing saying, “I’m sorry. Will you forgive me?” when you aren’t a good listener or speak unkindly this week.
