Day 7
Take a moment to pause, be still, and prepare your heart and mind to receive God’s word.
Today’s Scripture:
5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.[a] From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.
John 14:5-10 NLT
My father has three daughters, no sons. As the middle child, I tried to fill the role of a son and be “daddy’s girl”. If he thought hiking was fun, I thought hiking was fun. If dad wanted to go to Home Depot, I wanted to go to Home Depot. I did everything I could to be like my dad and mirror him. The depth of my relationship with my father was such that I became the point of contact when someone asked “what would your dad think about ____”. I felt proud to know my dad and to be considered “the image of my father.”
We see this type of relationship between Jesus and the Father. But Jesus wasn’t just an image of His Father, He was God Himself. The fullness of God in human form.
As we know Jesus more, we become more like the Father. And as Jesus’ disciples today, we can say “the Father is in me.” We can know Him and be known by Him. My heart for us is that we grow closer to the Father by truly knowing His Son and living into our identities as image bearers of Christ.
Reflect
We can know God through Jesus and we can know Jesus through reading the Bible. How does reading God’s word impact your life? Does it change you or does it feel like a spiritual box to check?
Pray
Pray to the Father asking Him to reveal Himself to you through Jesus.
Family Moment
Knowing God is never meant to be a chore. Discuss how viewing God as the Father impacts how you respond to Him.
